Cheeseburger Flatbread Melts

There is nothing not to love about these cheeseburger flatbread melts and I’m excited to share them with you here.  I have made them a few times now and they are always a hit.  They kind of have a “tacos meet sloppy joes” thing going on…. they are so easy and are all made right on your stove top.  Make them for yourself and you will see what I’m talking about!

If you are looking for a quick and easy lunch or dinner meal that tastes just as good as a meal you slaved all day over then this is your new best friend!  It’s a little comfort food to wrap up the summer (::::tear::::).  Hey, I bet this would even make a great camping meal!  Also, you could always add some lettuce, tomato, onion….. any kind of cheeseburger fixins’ you love!  Get creative…

This is definitely what happy tastes like.

Cheeseburger Flatbread Melts. Variation of tacos and sloppy joes.

Cheeseburger Flatbread Melts. Variation of tacos and sloppy joes. Very kid-friendly.

INGREDIENTS:

(To double this recipe, double everything except the dry onion soup mix)

1/2 lb lean ground beef, browned and drained
1/4 cup water
1/2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 pkg dry onion soup mix
1/4 cup ketchup
1 tbsp mustard
1 garlic clove, minced
2 tablespoons canola or vegetable oil
11 oz thin crust pizza dough (can use store bought flatbreads from the bread aisle)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

DIRECTIONS:

Brown and drain ground beef. Add water, vinegar, onion soup mix, ketchup, mustard and garlic. Stir to combine and simmer over low heat. Meanwhile, heat 2 tbsp canola oil over medium heat in a large, heavy bottomed skillet. Divide the pizza dough into six equal portions and roll into a round, tortilla-like shape (if using store bought flatbreads, skip to directions below). Fry the dough for one minute on each side or until golden brown and bubbly. Remove to a paper towel to drain. Top with beef mixture and shredded cheese.

For store bought flatbreads:  Heat them in microwave until warm or brush both sides of bread with oil and place into an ungreased skillet over medium-high heat on one side for about 10 seconds (watch so it’s not burning) . Flip the bread with the tongs and cook on the reverse side for another 10 seconds or until the bread becomes just soft and warm.
