Then, you can end your day with warm apple crisp that everyone will not be able to stop talking about.I can’t believe fall is right around the corner. I’m so not ready! You all can keep your pumpkin spice and leave my summer alone! I do, however, like cozy fall recipes. I miss my apple cider cupcakes immensely during the summer months. Crock Pot Apple Crisp is an easy fall dessert and made with very simple ingredients right in the slow cooker.

This yummy dessert is comforting and warms you up when the colder weather hits. I know my Cinnamon Apple Pie Bread is all your favorite apple recipe on my site as it gets tons and tons of traffic this time of the year, but I promise this one will be right up there.

You can make this apple crisp with any mix of baking apples, but I prefer to use Granny Smith like I do in my Fried Apples recipe. You can use a single variety of sweet, crisp apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith is my go-to) or a mixture of the two. Just make sure that the apples are a good variety for baking, or your crisp will turn out watery or too sweet.

The best types of apples for baking are Cortland, Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Gala, Melrose, Haralson, Jonathons or Jonagolds (as I used in my Caramel Apple Cheesecake Bars). These apples are both firm and flavorful. The apple crumble topping in this particular recipe is more like a streusel topping. It is made with flour, sugar, oats and butter.

The best part about this Crock Pot Apple Crisp is that it won’t require you to turn on your oven. This is my absolute favorite feature. I do not need to dirty up other pans when making a dessert right in the crock pot. I use this apple peeler (photo below) to make my life even easier!

It is an easy way to make dessert for a crowd, and any leftovers are super delicious topped with yogurt for breakfast the next day. I’m always in the mood for apple dessert recipes for breakfast. The granola topping and the apple cinnamon flavoring makes this slow cooker dessert a must-have anytime of the day.

This simple crock pot apple crisp is laced with cinnamon and lemon juice, sweetened with brown sugar, and has a generous, buttery oat topping, just as any good apple crisp should. You also NEED to try my Caramel Apple Pie!

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 2 hours
Total Time 2 hours 15 minutes
Servings 6

Ingredients

  • 4-6 Granny Smith apples peeled and cut into ½ inch pieces
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 1 1 lemon juiced

For the Crumble:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold salted butter cubed (1 stick)

Instructions

  • Peel and dice the apples into about ½ inch pieces.
  • In a large bowl, mix apples, 1 tsp of the cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch until combined.
  • Combine flour, brown sugar, remaining 1 tsp of cinnamon, oats, and cold butter in a medium bowl. Use a fork or pastry cutter and mix until you have coarse crumbs.
  • Pour the apple mixture into the crock pot.
  • Cover apple mixture with crumble topping.
  • Cook in your crock pot on high for 1 hour with the lid on, and then 1 additional hour with the lid off.

Notes

Tips:

  • Cooking your apple crisp in the crockpot without the lid for the last hour will help to release some steam and crisp up your topping.
  • Adding cornstarch to your apples will prevent them from becoming watery.
  • You can store any leftover apple crisp in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Make sure your butter is really cold. You don’t want it to melt when you are combining it with the other topping ingredients.
  • You can use any kind of apple you like. I prefer a tart apple like the Granny Smith so it doesn’t become overly sweet.
  • Feel free to use salted or unsalted butter for this recipe.
