Patriotic Sangria
Sip on my Patriotic Sangria recipe this summer to enjoy a cocktail while beating the heat at the same time! With fresh blueberries, strawberries, white grape juice, brandy, and wine, it’s perfect for Flag Day, 4th of July or Memorial Day!
I’m feeling it guys. Summer is here. You aren’t going to find a much easier recipe for patriotic sangria than this one. Fruit + wine is my love language. See, I can do math. Go run and tell Mr. Wishes.
If you have a well-stocked bar and some fresh fruit, you probably already have everything on hand to make this. I love sangria recipes.
We laugh at our well-stocked bar because we hardly ever drink, but we have every liquor imaginable in our cabinet. A lot of it is left over from our New Year’s Eve party ages ago! We have joked that we “need to drink more” to use up our supply. We didn’t know what people would drink so we literally got one of every single thing at the liquor store and here it sits. Don’t get me wrong, I do dabble into the tequila every now and then!
The best part is this CAN be a make-ahead recipe. It doesn’t seem like something that would be able to, but it absolutely can.
What you can do if you make this ahead is keep the patriotic sangria in a pitcher that is airtight so that the fruit doesn’t go bad. Typically, this sangria recipe will last 4-5 days as long as the fruit wasn’t close to spoiling before you made it. The longer it sits, the deeper the fruit flavor is going to get. The wine will start to lose its flavor after a few days, so I don’t recommend letting it sit longer.
Serve this patriotic sangria in a big punch bowl. I find that, like with my Sangria Punch, I like to use a glass cylinder bowl or just a fishbowl type glass bowl for displaying sangria because you can see all the colorful goodness. It looks so nice in a glass bowl, and you can just provide a ladle and let people serve themselves to their leisure.
Feel free to use cantaloupe in place of the honeydew melon if you prefer. The pale-colored flesh of the honeydew is why it’s a great option for this patriotic drink, but the flavor won’t be effected at all if you have to swap it.
Feel free to make this bad boy your own. That’s the beauty of a sangria recipe —it’s the ultimate use-what-you-have-on-hand beverage. You can even add a sprig of mint to each glass to be extra fancy.
This sangria is seriously is a crowd-pleaser, especially for wine lovers. Make sure you read the notes in my written recipe below for tips to make this perfectly! The fruit is a nice festive touch and as a bonus, it serves as a snack after you’ve finished your glass.
Cheers to a patriotic cocktail that’s not only good looking but also good sipping. If you’re looking for more patriotic punches to make, try my super pretty Blue Piña Colada Party Punch. I can’t wait for some fireworks!
Maybe sangria is basic, but I don’t care how basic it is. It’s a very good thing that doesn’t even matter because everything I love is basic.
- 1 ½ cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 honeydew melon, sliced and cut into stars, if preferred
- 1 cup white grape Juice, chilled
- ⅓ cup brandy
- 1 750ml bottle of dry white wine, chilled
- In a large glass jug or pitcher, combine the fruit, grape juice and brandy.
- Pour in the white wine and gently stir to combine
- Serve chilled as is or over ice. Enjoy!
- Serving over ice will dilute the sangria
- Can be stored in the fridge for 2 days
- For a drier sangria, substitute club soda for the white grape juice
- You can adjust ingredient quantities to suit your taste (a bit less brandy, etc.)
- You will need a small star shaped cookie cutter to cut out the melon into stars if you choose to do that. Make sure to slice the melon into thin enough slices to make it easy to use the star cutter.
Summer is definitely here — it’s HOT! So we need to cool off with a refreshing drink like this wonderful looking sangria. Wow, what a neat recipe! Thanks SO much.
