I first traveled to Italy back in 2007 when we went to visit Mr. Wishes’ family and I tasted their homemade wine while there.  It was unlike any wine I had ever had (in a good way) and went so well with all the food I ate while there.  And by “all the food” I mean I gained 5 pounds in 2 weeks by the time I came back home – worth every delicious bite! Italy has some of the most unique and quality wines on the globe, as well as having the most grape varieties that are locally produced than any country in the world. I felt right at home there and want to eat that food and drink that wine every day for the rest of my life.

Mr. Wishes’ uncle Eddie makes his own wine.  We were at a graduation party recently and he was passionately explaining to me the process of how he makes his wine each year.  Needless to say, it’s quite the complex process and most of it was way over my head, although incredibly intriguing.  Did you know that Italian wines have a tendency to be very acidic because wines that contain high levels of acidity are well suited with food?  Now we know Italians are all about their food so that just makes so much sense.  Eddie let me take some of his homemade wine home with me that day and I was so excited because nothing beats sipping on some homemade wine at home that you know so much love and effort went into.

I used some of the wine gifted to me to make these Cherry Red Wine Slushies.  You can use whatever your favorite red wine is to make these bad boys, just make sure it’s pretty good quality.  These slushies are so refreshing and would be great to share with friends at a get-together!  Pouring some glasses of plain red wine is good and all, but wine SLUSHIES are where it’s at. I added the frozen cherries to give it that perfect slushie consistency (and because Mr. Wishes is basically obsessed with cherries – you can feel free to use any frozen fruit that you may like better).  These are a must try!
