Homemade chocolate pie or old fashioned chocolate pie is easy to make and uses homemade chocolate pudding! How to make chocolate pie!

  • 1 prepared pie crust - 9 inch (use your favorite homemade recipe or get a store-bought crust)
  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 3 cups Milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ¾ cups chocolate chips - milk chocolate, semi-sweet or dark
Whipped Cream:
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  1. Prepare pie crust and cool on a wire rack
  2. In a medium saucepan whisk together sugar, cornstarch and salt
  3. In a small bowl, whisk egg yolks
  4. In a measuring cup with a spout, whisk together milk and beaten egg yolks
  5. Gradually add a small amount of the milk mixture to the saucepan, whisk until well combined
  6. Gradually add another small amount of milk mixture, whisk until well combined
  7. Slowly pour in remaining milk mixture, whisk constantly
  8. Over medium heat, whisking constantly, cook pudding until it begins to boil, this will take about 10-15 min
  9. Continue to boil for 1 min, whisking constantly
  10. Whisk in vanilla extract and butter until melted and smooth
  11. Stir in chocolate chips until smooth
  12. Pour pudding into prepared pie crust, cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator to chill for at least 4 hours
  13. Whipped Cream
  14. Add heavy cream to large mixing bowl and whisk on high until soft peaks form
  15. Gradually add powdered sugar and beat until stiff peaks form
  16. Stir in vanilla extract
Serve pie with whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired. Enjoy!
