All about a week on board this beautiful cruise ship and my Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas Review.

Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas Review. The ship docked in Labadee, Haiti.

Who loves Royal Caribbean cruises?  I do!  What do I love about cruising?  Everything…I love everything about cruising!  Who wouldn’t love endless blue skies, seas surrounding you, the sound of the ocean at 5 a.m., the peacefulness, the exciting atmosphere, the friendly people….nobody can help but smile on a cruise. In this post I will tell you all about the Oasis of the Seas.

The Oasis of the Seas is a Royal Caribbean ship which is the the largest cruise ship ever built (along with Allure of the Seas).  I believe the Allure of the Seas is actually a whole 2 inches longer if that matters to anyone.

Mr. Wishes and I went on a cruise this past March aboard this beautiful ship.  It is basically a huge, floating resort!  The cruise ship has so much to do and ensures you can find something that interests you: Central Park, the Boardwalk, Pool & Sports Zone, Royal Promenade, HUGE casino, Vitality at Sea Spa & Fitness, Entertainment Place and Youth Zone.  It would take 10 pages of writing to tell you about how great our experience was on this ship and all I love about it, so I’ll just give you the highlights.

On top of everything else, my favorite part of Oasis of the Seas is most definitely one of most innovative and tranquil places ever built aboard a ship – Central Park!  This is the first floating park in the world and it has exactly 12,000 real live plants and 56 trees (Yes, I looked it up).  It is complete with prerecorded chirping bird noises….and I even saw a butterfly or two floating around!  It is such a fun hang-out spot and a unique and wonderful use of space on the ship.   Mr. Wishes and I would find ourselves relaxing there time and time again. The park contains a number of shops and dining options that you pay extra for:  Chops Grille (steak house) Giovanni’s Table (Italian Dining) 150 Central Park (exclusive dining and my own personal favorite) and Vintages (wine bar).  Also, the best part of Central Park – Park Cafe!  This is included in the price of the cruise and has a nice variety of food where you can grab a healthy breakfast or lunch……including a create-your-own salad buffet!  We were there every day…sometimes multiple times a day.  Central Park s even more beautiful at night when it’s all lit up.

There really are so many dining options on Oasis that you could do something different for every meal if you wanted to.  The Opus dining room must be the biggest dining room at sea.  It is known to be one of the largest dining rooms in the world! It has three levels, the second and third being balconies looking down onto level one.  Right in the center is a giant chandelier that is right above the captain’s table.  It’s breathtaking!  The food served here is fantastic and the wait staff is always so friendly and attentive.  You have the same waiters every night for dinner and really get to know them and befriend them by the end of the cruise.  Breakfast and lunch in the dining room are served open seating and are less formal.

On to the Royal Promenade.  This first existed on the Voyager class ships back in 1999 and it’s a very cool concept.  Basically, it is an enclosed street down the middle of the ship featuring a range of different bars and cafes to eat at:  Sorrento’s Pizza that stays open until 3 a.m, Promenade Cafe, a British pub that has live music frequently, and some other bars and shops.  The Promenade cafe is cool because it is open 24 hours and serves up yummy pastries, small sandwiches and coffees in the morning.  It’s a good place to just grab a quick snack.  It is always very lively in the Royal Promenade and there’s multiple random parades and street parties there throughout the week that are pretty entertaining.

The Boardwalk is an area which appeals mostly to families with children and is supposed to resemble a Coney Island type atmosphere, without the beach.  It has the first-ever at-sea carousel.  At the end of the Boardwalk, the very back of the ship, is the Aqua theatre where there is a nighttime show called “Oasis of Dreams” complete with professional high divers- it’s awesome!  The carousel on the Boardwalk is fun if you have kids – or if you are a kid at heart.  The restaurants on the Boardwalk include Johnny Rockets, the Sea food Shack, the Doughnut shop (yummy) and then just some random shops and carnival games.

Oasis has awesome entertainment all week and the  biggest entertainment cast of any ship!   With the exception of the Headliner’s show, which was the super cool Beatles tribute act called “Beatlemania” (which I thoroughly enjoyed, and yes, sang along and danced to every song and embarrassed Mr. Wishes), all the big shows are in house productions.  The musical “Hairspray’” production (which is 1 hour and 40 minute long) is definitely Broadway quality.  I was very impressed by this show and it far exceeded my expectations.  I think you will love it, too!

The Solarium is also a favorite part of the Oasis of the Seas.  It’s yet another peaceful spot to relax.  It is an adults only area and is a large glass paneled space, which has a partially open glass roof .  It has a swimming pool, two hot tubs, it’s own bar and the Solarium Bistro.   The Bistro is mostly upscale, healthy food and has a complimentary buffet for breakfast and lunch.  The food here is delicious and mostly guilt-free.  At night the Solarium Bistro is transformed into an upscale restaurant with fancy table settings, flowers and white linen covered chairs.  If you want to eat dinner at the Bistro you have to pay extra and I can’t say I have tried their food – I’m sure it’s good!  Royal Caribbean knows how to do food.  On a side note:  there are also two huge hot tubs with big-screen TV’s that over hang both sides of the ship, adjacent to the Solarium, and have great views!   You can sit in the hot tub and look at the ship as if you were alongside it.  They are very popular and can sometimes get overcrowded so you have to go at the right times (late at night is one of those times).

The Solarium – this is while we were still docked in Ft. Lauderdale

Below the Solarium, there is an open air viewing area above each of the bridge “wings” on deck 14, called the “Sun Deck”.  If you don’t mind a lot of wind (because it’s open…and the ship is moving), it’s a cool spot to get photos and a great view of the beautiful waters surrounding you!

I simply did not have time to see, do and eat everything the Oasis of the Seas has to offer within one week…there’s just so much.  I highly recommend this ship if you’re looking for an amazing floating experience!  It’s unbelievable.   Cruises are really the best way to vacation, in my opinion.  You will love it – and you might even cry when you have to get off the ship (not that I did that or anything).

Have you ever thought about your dream vacation?  What would you do if you had all the money in the world?  Where would you go?  Do share.
