Happy Friday, everyone! I don’t know about you, but I will be entering into a baking frenzy this weekend and I bet I’m not alone. When you think about using salt as an ingredient in your recipes do you normally think a savory dish? In the last few years I have discovered my love for salt in and/or on top of baked goods (like in my Salted Caramel Kentucky Butter Cake). Sweet and savory together in one dessert is truly a beautiful thing. These Salted Caramel Browned Butter Rice Krispie Treats will be perfect for the holidays (any holiday, really) and as a fun alternative to pie or cookies on your dessert trays this year.

A good sprinkling of some coarse salt brings out the flavors in sweets unlike anything else can and I’m really loving Morton Kosher Salt lately most of all! I have a variety of their salt in my pantry at all times and they all serve different purposes for cooking and baking and take my dishes to the next level. This salt would also be great on chocolate desserts! I always fall back on Morton Kosher Salt for everyday use because of it’s taste and its savoriness. I like that little bit of texture to my cookies, pie crusts and on steaks.

Rice Krispie treats couldn’t possibly be boring even if they tried (like my Cake Batter version), but I found a way to make them bigger, badder, and better. I recently made chocolate chip cookies using browned butter and knew I had to try it with Rice Krispie treats. To take it even one step further, I just needed to add some sort of salted caramel flavor to the mix. I love my salted caramel desserts, as you know!

Have you ever baked with browned butter before? Basically, you “toast” the butter until it gets a brownish color and a nutty aroma. I was super intimidated by it the first time I tried this, but it’s really easy.  As long as you take the butter off the heat as soon as you see a decent amount of those brown bits, you are golden. I created a step-by-step video (included below) for the visual learners out there!  I know sometimes following recipes is so much easier when you can actually see the steps as opposed to just reading the words.

Not only is the Morton Kosher Salt incorporated into these Salted Caramel Browned Butter Rice Krispie Treats, but it is also sprinkled on top. I did this so that you get the perfect amount of delicious salt in every single bite. I chose the Kosher salt for this dessert because it gives me the ability to pinch and sprinkle the salt for complete control and precise placement. Also, the coarse salt sitting on top of each treat tells you exactly the flavors you will be enjoying before you even bite into these babies. Trust me when I say that a little bit of the right kind of salt really goes a long way in elevating the flavor or your food – whether sweet OR savory!

They have wonderful Next Door Chef recipes that they prepared that include a turkey brine, turkey stock, brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes and spicy rice all using a variety of Morton delicious salt.
