I have always loved and had way too much fun throwing themed parties for my family and friends.  I wouldn’t consider myself the best party thrower in the entire world, but I enjoy it and find it easier to plan when I pick a theme and just run with it.  This narrows down my choices as far as decor, food, and attire.  I can pretty much make a celebration out of anything, like my Groundhog Day party I threw that one year.

How to Throw an Afternoon Tea Party.

Tea Cucumber Sandwiches and other sweet desserts for an afternoon tea party.

For my latest party I decided to throw an afternoon tea party for something different!  I served a variety of Lipton Tea, invited friends and family over on a beautiful, sunny afternoon and created great memories in the process. I made it super low key and will share with you a few tips for throwing your own afternoon tea party:

Tips for throwing an afternoon tea party for friends and family.

Lipton Tea Lemon Ginger Variety

  • You can’t have a tea party without pretty tea cups and saucers!  My mom helped me find an adorable vintage-style tea set at a thrift store:  cups, matching tea pot, and sugar bowl.  You will be surprised what you can find at cheap prices in thrift stores!  They are quite addicting…
  • Doilies are a MUST for a proper tea party!  As you can see, the doilies were used extensively.  I used them as place mats at the table.  They look cute underneath just about anything on the party table and just add that extra touch.
  • For the table cloth, I used a flowery one that my husband’s Grandma had given us years ago before she passed away.  I was glad to finally have a reason to use it as it went perfectly with the tea party theme.
  • Make your spread look fresh and vibrant by adding pretty flowers to the mix.  I used a pink vase and yellow tulips and revolved the colors around the tablecloth and tea set.
  • Set the tone with some soft music playing in the background.  I like to make it just soft enough that everyone can still hear each other talk.
  • Dress up!  How often do you get to attend a tea party?  Have some fun with it and wear a bright, pretty outfit along with your favorite jewelry (it’s a great time to bust out those pearls).
  • For the food, I made cucumber tea sandwiches with the crusts cut off and cut into small triangles, blueberry scones with clotted cream and jam, and a variety of bite-sized cakes and sweets.  Shortbread and thumbprint cookies would also be a great option.
  • Now, the most important part – delicious tea….

Southern Sweet Peach Iced Tea made with Lipton tea bags.

Homemade Sweet Iced Tea recipe with Peach flavor just like they do in the south!

I knew ahead of time that one of my guests was not too keen on hot beverages.  I served a wide variety of Lipton Tea and made this Peach Sweet Iced Tea in addition to that.  My guests loved having the option of cold or hot tea!  For the hot tea, all you need to do is boil the hot water and then let your guests pick the type of tea they would like.

The recipe for making this southern Peach Sweet Iced Tea is simple and easy.  All you need to do is boil water then add sugar and tea bags (I used Lipton Lemon Ginger Luscious Herbal Tea for this one) and let the tea brew for some time. When you are finished with these steps, you serve it in glasses over ice.  You can also feel free to add any flavors such as mint, raspberry, or lemon depending on what you and your guests like.

I had one friend attend my tea party who had never tried Lipton tea before!  She became completely sold on it and I even sent her home with her favorite flavor.  Lipton has brand new black and herbal varieties as well as improved, refreshing green teas that contain bold and stimulating flavors:  Enticing Chai, Pure Green, Orange Passionfruit Jasmine and Peach Mango.  The green teas are my favorite as they have such a light, fresh taste and wonderful aroma!  Lipton has such unique flavors using real ingredients, which I absolutely love.  Be sure to check out the full selection of their Green, Black and Herbal tea flavors here!
